In compliance with the government’s initiative to move away from colonial practices, Indian Navy has discontinued the use of batons by all personnel with immediate effect. Instead, a ceremonial baton will be placed in the office of each unit’s head. The handover of the baton will only take place ceremonially within the office during a change of command. This decision aims to shed the colonial legacy and embrace modern practices.
